DIRTY DANCING: THE CLASSIC STORY ON STAGE

TUESDAY, SEPT. 8–SUNDAY, SEPT. 13, RALEIGH

RALEIGH MEMORIAL AUDITORIUM—If you couldn't make it to Lake Lure last month for the annual weekend dance party celebrating the 1987 blockbuster filmed there, here's Plan B. The 2004 musical stage adaptation of Dirty Dancing combines live action with large video backdrops that (uh-oh) occasionally glitched during last fall's run at DPAC. The killer soundtrack is mainly performed jukebox musical-style by a live band and supporting actors on the sidelines. The principals are busy dancing: Christopher Tierney (Johnny) has performed with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and Jenny Winton (Penny) has danced with the Joffrey Ballet. A winning Gillian Abbott co-stars as "Baby" Houseman in this co-production from Broadway Series South and North Carolina Theatre. 7:30 p.m. Tues.–Sun.; 2 p.m. Sat.–Sun., $30–$128, 2 E. South St., Raleigh, 919-831-6941, www.nctheatre.com. —Byron Woods

Price: $26.60-$112.09
