Dinner Party Download Live Taping

When: Fri., July 25, 3 p.m. 2014

If you ever while away Saturday afternoons listening to WUNC, then you've heard "The Dinner Party Download," where Rico Gagliano and Brendan Francis Newnam invite guests to chew over current trends and news in leisure, from arts and culture to food and drink. The idea is to arm you with anecdotes for stimulating dinner party conversation. The problem? By the time you get to the party, everyone there has heard the same program. Here's your chance to get ahead of the pack: The program is coming to Chapel Hill for a live taping connected to Merge Records' 25th anniversary festival. A variety of label-related guests are on deck, including Merge and Superchunk founders Mac McCaughan and Laura Ballance, "etiquette expert" Jon Wurster (Superchunk's drummer and cohost of WFMU comedy program "The Best Show"), the band Teenage Fanclub and Mount Moriah's Heather McEntire, who will blend a locally themed cocktail for recurring segment "A History Lesson with Booze." How on earth did this event wind up at the Triangle's premier noise club, of all places? That'll be something to talk about at dinner. —Brian Howe
