Derklöwnschpankeneffekt | Manbites Dog Theater | Stage | Indy Week

When: Thursdays-Saturdays, 8:15 p.m. Continues through April 6 2013

In the first scenario, three men on a lifeboat—with the odd names of Fat, Medium and Thin—hold elections to determine which will be eaten now that their provisions have run out. In the second, two businessmen, less than forcibly renditioned, go on and on, asserting their various views about authority, personal freedom and civil disobedience while they're systematically being relieved of their clothes.

Obviously, the themes in both of these "two plays for klöwn," as they're billed, speak to present political developments. But Out At Sea and Striptease weren't written by some Occupy-affiliated stage artist. Absurdist and political playwright Slawomir Mrozek wrote both in Poland, more than half a century ago.

From the looks of things, this Little Green Pig production seems intent on exploring the same demented political landscape that their five-star production of ANARCHIST! did three years ago. Michael O'Foghluda directs a group including Jeffrey Detwiler, Jay O'Berski and Carl Martin. We were already intrigued before we learned this show requires no less than four designers, including Quran Karriem and Rebecca Buck. —Byron Woods
