Death Fest

When: Sat., Dec. 4, 2 p.m.-1 a.m. 2010

The grand tradition of stacking a day's worth of death metal into one massive, quite possibly overwhelming bill returns to Volume 11 with the fourth annual Death Fest. This 13-band onslaught doesn't boast the headliners of a bigger festival, like Maryland Death Fest's annual juggernaut, but its bargain price and largely regional talent pool are plenty persuasive. Headliner Malevolent Creation offers a refreshingly old-school take on death metal, evoking Morbid Angel and Obituary. Faith In Ashes presents a more divergent approach, implementing elements of folk and classical into their majestic death metal. And Bloodsoaked, the one-man project helmed by Peter Hasselbrack, goes after Cannibal Corpse and Gorgoroth with an insular, black-metal-informed approach. The array of delightful band names also includes Malebolgia, Sexcrement, Atrocious Abnormality, Abnormality (sans the atrociousness, apparently), Her Virgin Womb, Six Foot Orchard, Coffin Syrup, Daimonic and Wake the Living. Tickets are $10 and the music starts at 2 p.m. —Bryan Reed

Price: $10
