Clubs & Concerts

When: Sat., June 6, 2 p.m. 2015

Under the DJ name MikeD, Mike Dimpfl and his cohorts work to reduce rarity. In Chapel Hill, Dimpfl says it can be hard to hear electronic music soundtracking summer dance parties, especially with the cuts being spun on turntables. "Even less common is being able to hear dance music outside," he offers. "You can hear lots of bluegrass, but rare are the chances when people get to boogie down in the sun." His Actual Dancing crew will change that this weekend, at least, with "Daylight@Nightlight." For the last two years, Dimpfl and three DJs have powered Actual Dancing, a contagious night of accessible electronics. Along with Nightlight favorites like Disco Sweat and Durham's Illegal parties, it's become an essential part of dance's increasing share in the Triangle's live music market. For the second consecutive summer, they'll turn Nightlight into a two-stage club, with nearly a dozen DJs trading 30-minute sets indoors and outdoors during a 12-hour extravaganza. The roster is deep and Triangle-wide, too, with the Actual Dancing core joined by the likes of Keith Ward and Fifi Hi-Fi. 2 p.m.–2 a.m., $10, 405 1/2 W. Rosemary St., Chapel Hill, 919-960-6101, —Grayson Haver Currin
