Dash Rip Rock, Jeff Hart

When: Wed., Aug. 29, 9 p.m. 2012

One of the most irreverent acts of the last quarter-century, this Louisiana trio formed in 1984 and has been hailing the party ever since. Their cockeyed vision has resulted in such nutty excursions as 2007's Hee Haw Hell, in which a redneck dies amid a crazy blowout and winds his way through the circles of hell, and their hilarious remake of the early rock classic "At the Hop" as "(Let's Go) Smoke Some Pot." While the humor is plentiful, it's incidental to the enjoyment; Dash Rip Rock includes fine players who not only sing paeans to the party but can bring it with hook-laden swamp boogie, punkabilly rave-ups, ringing country-folk and bounding ragtime. Jeff Hart opens the 9 p.m. show. Tickets are $8; visit local506.com. Dash Rip Rock also plays Thursday at 9 p.m. at the Pour House in Raleigh with opening act The Poon Hounds. —Chris Parker
