CRAIG JOHNSON:

DRY BONES

SATURDAY, MAY 30, PITTSBORO

MCINTYRE'S BOOKS—The smart A&E Western Longmire is about a retired Wyoming sheriff who returns to work after his wife's death, investigating crimes and seeking reelection. The Wall Street Journal hailed it as "a modern crime drama with dry wit and sometimes heart-wrenching emotion that's also got a glorious setting under the big sky of Wyoming." But A&E canceled the series after three well-received seasons before Netflix rescued it from oblivion, picking up a fourth season to air later this year. If you can't wait, there's the series of Walt Longmire mystery novels by Craig Johnson upon which the show is based. The most recent, Dry Bones, deals with the discovery of a T. Rex fossil whose ownership swiftly comes under dispute. You can hear Johnson read and bug him for TV-show spoilers at McIntyre's; he also appears at Quail Ridge Books (May 31, 3 p.m.). 11 a.m., free, 220 Market St., Pittsboro, 919-542-3030, www.fearrington.com. —Brian Howe
