Coriolanus | Halifax Mall | Stage | Indy Week

When: Thursdays-Saturdays, 7:30 p.m. and Fri., Oct. 24, 7:30 p.m. Continues through Sept. 27 2014

Playgoers puzzling over the venue for Bare Theatre's Coriolanus should be advised: The outdoor space at the north end of downtown Raleigh isn't a traditional theater venue. Still, there's been no shortage of political theater there—it was the site of the Moral Monday marches. Director G. Todd Buker chooses this contested ground to stage a controversial text. Shakespeare's tragedy dares to question the wisdom of popular political rule in the story of a great warrior betrayed by image-makers and the fickle sympathies of the crowd. Audiences will stand and walk during this environmental work; marching is optional.  —Byron Woods
