Convergence 2012: The Geo/Body Politics Of Emancipation

When: Fri., Nov. 9, Sat., Nov. 10 and Sun., Nov. 11 2012

Is it the just-concluded election, or is it just a long-lasting, transformative radical movement in the air? There's a slow money conference in Pittsboro, and for the more theoretically inclined, there's a three-day conference about our present moment that will take place mostly on Duke University's East Campus. Called Convergence 2012: The Geo/Body Politic of Emancipation, it's presented by a group with the equally daunting title of Graduate Student Initiative of the Hemispheric Institute of Performance & Politics. The weekend will feature presentations by left-wing academics and activists, including locals Michael Hardt, Pedro Lasch and the community activist group El Kilombo.

Most of the weekend's events will take place in Richard White Lecture Hall on Duke's East Campus, but Saturday night, there will be a performance at Durham Arts Council's PSI Theatre called Collective Sun: Reshape the Mo(u)rning by SpiritHouse.
