Classic Christmas Movies

When: Thu., Dec. 22, 7 p.m. 2011

If you're at an alcohol-serving establishment around Christmas, chances are you need some human contact and possibly really good antidepressants. I am fond of generic Zoloft myself. Though if you come to the Pinhook's marathon of Christmas movies, the odds are far and against the holiday spirit failing to move you.

A trio of flicks adorns this fine evening. First up is The Muppets Christmas Carol, with Michael Caine as Scrooge alongside an army of Henson creations. Next is A Chrsitmas Story, for those who might dare miss the 24-hour marathons of it they have on cable each and every year or who missed the recent touring musical version. And finally it's National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, one of those rare Chevy Chase films that's actually funny (though he's quite good on TV's Community nowadays). It's a scattered but often hilarious number that includes the world's greatest sledding trip and a wonderfully profane breakdown. It all starts at 7 p.m., and it's free; visit thepinhook.com. If you want a Hanukkah movie ... yeah, you'll have to make one yourself. Vaguely nondenominational Christian-themed holidays are still what drives the box office. Sorry. —Zack Smith
