City of Medicine

When: Fri., Nov. 26, 8 p.m. 2010

The Transactors, pillars of the Triangle improv scene, extemporize episodes of a TV hospital drama in their long-running City of Medicine series. Known by the tag line "If you laugh, we're doing comedy; if you don't, we're doing drama," they keep the series humming with more of the former, despite the profusion of exotic diseases, traumatic injuries and flatlining heart monitors at Bull City Medical. And true to the conventions of the genre, the staff's bedside manners have less to do with patient care than with trysting in the ICU.

Season 4, Episode 2 plays tonight with guest stars Heather Rodin and Anthony Nicholas Galanos (don't worry—they'll catch you up on last month's episode) at 8 p.m., with a $12 copay ($10 for students and Medicare recipients). They can't always accommodate walk-ins; advance appointments are recommended; Side effects of attendance may include dizziness, bloating, euphoria, manual patellar concussion and spasmodic contraction of the diaphragm with associated epiglottal constriction of the larynx. —Marc Maximov
