City of Frogs | UNC Campus: Forest Theatre | Stage | Indy Week

City of Frogs

When: Aug. 10-Sept. 9 2012

Give those crazy bastards at Paperhand Puppet Intervention some credit: Not only do they put on new shows at UNC's Forest Theatre every year, but they're sticking to their plan amid one of the hottest summers in history. That's dedication, if not masochism, and not the fun kind. Their 13th annual show, "City of Frogs," is an all-ages event with masks, stilt walkers, shadow puppets and live music. What else? Oh, they tell us to expect "an epic modern fairy tale with a wizened witch, jangling junk man, and many forms of the Man of Beasts. Not to mention the indigenous population of frogs."

Friday's opening show is at 7 p.m., with a 6:20 p.m. pre-show event; performances continue Fridays–Sundays and Labor Day through Sept. 9. Tickets are $12, or $8 for kids; for God's sake, pay them extra if you can. (If the prices seem too steep for you, know that the company doesn't turn anyone away.) —Zack Smith

Price: $8-12
