Cinderella | Memorial Auditorium | Stage | Indy Week

When: April 10-18 2010

When I first saw Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella in 1997, R&B singer Brady played the title role and Whitney Houston was her fairy godmother. Needless to say, that's a memorable experience for a 10-year-old. Rodgers and Hammerstein's musicals need no introduction, yet what is distinct about this Cinderella adaptation is that it is their only musical collaboration written for television; it reached a whopping 107 million viewers when it premiered in 1965. The North Carolina Theatre's second production of the 2010 season includes the same score but has an updated book by Tom Briggs and more magical effects. Paolo Montalban, who was also in the 1997 version with Brady and Houston, reprises his role as Prince Christopher. The show runs through April 18. Tickets are $26–$76. —Belem Destefani
