Chest Pains, Tough Shits

When: Sat., June 4 2011

This sounds either like a bad hospital visit or a good punk show. Philly's Tough Shits inject punk bluster into trebly psychedelic surf pop, early-'60s Detroit soul and rockabilly. The tunes are sloppy and raw, with vocals alternating between hollers and bawls, but the scuzz-party upending of these styles suggests the infamous Troggs. The other symptom—uhh, band—on the bill, in the headlining slot, is Durham's Chest Pains, whose members have been playing punk rock in various bands since the '80s. The music is uncomplicated, punctuated by Greg Barbera's righteous and awesome tirades. Visit for ticket price and starting time. —Corbie Hill
