Chatham County Line

When: Fri., Sept. 30, 6 p.m. 2011

So undeniable is Chatham County Line's place among the region's finest bands that the claim needs no genre qualification. Good thing, too, since that qualification would be hard to offer. After a debut of mostly straightforward bluegrass, the acoustic Raleigh quartet has deftly avoided any pigeonhole, evolving instead to encompass all flavors of Americana, complete with a rock 'n' roll spirit and down-home harmonies. CCL has been packing clubs and theaters across the country and abroad for years, so don't miss an opportunity to catch them at home—especially for free, as the final event of this year's Back Porch Music on the Lawn series. If the crowd for their show here last year was any indication, you'll want to arrive a good bit ahead of the 6 p.m. start to secure a decent spot. —Spencer Griffith
