CHARLIE WILSON, KEM, JOE

PNC ARENA, RALEIGH

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 18

In 2013, Charlie Wilson, the Gap Band's former frontman and a stellar soul singer on a number of solo albums since, stole the BET Awards from the kids. Fresh from a howling appearance on Kanye West's Yeezus that included his tear-inducing addition to "Bound 2," Wilson won a Lifetime Achievement Award. He then proceeded to out-sing both Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams, in attendance to honor the veteran. At 62, Wilson remains one of soul's few older gems who can not only hold his own but stay relevant and revelatory. KEM and Joe, two of the many Sons of Charlie soulsters singing at the periphery of mainstream R&B, open. 7 p.m., $49.50$85, 1400 Edwards Mill Rd., Raleigh, 919-861-2300, www.thepncarena.com. —Brandon Soderberg
