COMEDY | CHARLIE MURPHY

THURSDAY, OCT. 30–SATURDAY, NOV. 1, RALEIGH

GOODNIGHTS COMEDY CLUB—It's fitting that Charlie Murphy is coming to the Triangle a week before Dave Chappelle's weekend-long engagement at the Durham Performing Arts Center. After all, it was Chappelle who got Murphy to reminisce about his true Hollywood stories for Chappelle's Show (as Chappelle memorably assumed the roles of Rick James and Prince), prompting Eddie Murphy's big brother to discover that he can be quite funny when he's not busy scowling. So before you see any of the three shows Chappelle will do in Durham, you can see Murphy—in whom Chappelle saw the funny long before Murphy saw it in himself—entertaining you with his badass anecdotes (as long as you're 18 or older). With Thomas Dixson. 8 p.m. Thurs.; 7:30 and 10 p.m. Fri.–Sat., $31, 861 W. Morgan St., 919-828-5233, www.goodnightscomedy.com. —Craig D. Lindsey

Price: $31-$38
