Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle: Music and the Bizarre

When: Sun., May 24, 3 p.m. 2015

Walt Disney owes Ponchielli an apology. The Italian composer’s “Dance of the Hours” comes from La Gioconda, which narrates a day from sunrise to sunset. It was once the center of one of the most frequently performed ballets. But the cartoonist turned it into a series of sight gags, staging it with zoo animals in Fantasia. The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle recovers Ponchielli’s classic, as well as the incidental music from Grieg’s Peer Gynt, in a Sunday matinee show. —Chris Vitiello
