Celebrating Haskell Fitz-Simons

When: Sat., Aug. 3, 2 p.m. 2013

In case you ever wondered how a theatrical community says goodbye to a longtime fellow laborer, mentor and friend, here's the answer: by doing one more show. A company of 65 actors, singers and musicians will pay tribute to Raleigh Little Theatre's beloved director Haskell Fitz-Simons, who died in May, with an afternoon of scenes and songs from some of his favorite productions. The program includes all-star alumni from RLT's annual productions of Cinderella; numbers from Cabaret, Annie Get Your Gun and Guys and Dolls; and scenes from Wit and The Diary of Anne Frank. Durham Savoyards, Stone Soup and the Oakwood Waits will contribute music. Is it a formal theatrical wake? One clue, from the company's website: "Attire: Flipflops, sandals, linen pants or shorts, Hawaiian shirts." Hey, it's the only way to go. —Byron Woods
