Catharsis, Man Will Destroy Himself, Cynarae, Dead in the Dirt, Gut Feeling

When: Thu., Jan. 17, 8:30 p.m. 2013

Between 1994 and 2002, the Chapel Hill punk band Catharsis developed a politically passionate and musically challenging mesh of dynamic post-rock, urgent hardcore and visceral metal. Taking influence from metallurgists Neurosis and soundscapers Godspeed You! Black Emperor, as well as punk heroes including Integrity, Catharsis' sprawls included abrupt lunges and textural tension but didn't sacrifice hardcore's blunt force. Since dissolving, the band's members have gone on to join the likes of 3 Inches of Blood, Walls of Jericho and Paint It Black. Catharsis reunites for a four-date run with a metallic hardcore bounty that includes Raleigh's Man Will Destroy Himself and Gut Feeling, Seattle's Cyanrae and Atlanta's Dead In The Dirt. The $10–$12 show starts at 8:30 p.m. —Bryan C. Reed

Price: $10-12
