Carrboro Music Festival: The Dead Tongues, Wes Tirey (Back Room)

When: Sat., Sept. 26, 9 p.m. 2015

The kickoff show for the annual Carrboro Music Festival is a highlight of the event itself: Ryan Gustafson, who leads The Dead Tongues, is one of the Triangle’s sharpest songwriters and most alluring singers. The band will share this bill with Wes Tirey. On Sunday, the best advice is to follow your bliss among two dozen Carrboro stages, perhaps working from the 1 p.m. gospel show at the Century Center to the ripping 2 p.m. set by Killer Filler at Fifth Season and the 3 p.m. prog escapade of Triplicity back at the Cradle. And if the sonorous vibes are getting to you, know you can escape into All Day Records’ excellent fifth-anniversary party, which starts with Sagan Youth at 2 p.m. and ends with SpongeBath as the sun goes down. Back outside, Carrboro Music Festival will still be going strong. —Grayson Haver Currin
