With venues such as Raleigh's Kings Barcade and Carrboro's ArtsCenter occasionally lending their stages to standup comedy shows where young, local comedians can show off their sense of humor (there are also annual events like the N.C. Comedy Arts Festival, currently turning out its final week of funny for this year), the Triangle comedy community has been reminding residents of its presence lately, with comics always ready to make citizens laugh.
Now Casbah will become another spot for local comics to shine, with the debut of its Bulltown Comedy Series. Launched and arranged by Durham comedian and Small Town Funny podcaster John Sideris, this monthly standup revue kicks off with Raleigh's Shane Smith (not to be confused with the punk rock drummer or the Vice magazine founder, both from Canada) as the headliner. Michelle Maclay (who co-hosts the Small Town Funny podcast with Sideris), Kyle Rainey and Julia McClung also are on the bill. —Craig D. Lindsey
