Buck Meek

When: Sun., Sept. 16, 8 p.m. 2018

Buck Meek occupies much of his time as the guitarist for the tender-hearted rock band Big Thief, but this spring, he issued his debut solo album. The self-titled collection is a light, mostly acoustic batch of songs that center Meek's songwriting over his guitar prowess. Tunes like "Cannonball!," "Ruby," and "Maybe" are lithe and warm, stretching out like a late-summer afternoon. But Meek counters those carefree numbers with songs that take a chillier turn, like "Best Friend" and "Flight 9525," leaving just enough space in his narratives to leave you hungry for more. Durham's subterranean Arcana is a surprisingly perfect place for these intimate songs to unfold. Mountain Man's Molly Sarlé opens with a solo set, plus Names of War. —Allison Hussey
