Bringing It Home

When: Fri., May 17, 7 p.m. 2013

The topic of industrial hemp, and its many practical and eco-friendly virtues, is one of those things I keep coming across and thinking, "Hmm, I should really bone up on this." Now's my chance, and yours: The locally produced documentary Bringing It Home examines industrial hemp farming in the U.S. and the frequently absurd public policy issues involved. Co-directors Linda Booker and Blaire Johnson, graduates of Duke's Center for Documentary Studies, interview business leaders and entrepreneurs from all over the globe, with footage shot in the U.K., Spain, D.C., California and North Carolina. This is the 50-minute film's premiere, with a grassroots (heh) screening campaign to follow in select cities from New York to San Francisco. The outdoor fundraising event also features a hemp information tent, hemp appetizers, cash bar and live music from Pittsboro's own Circle City. The address is 220 Lorax Lane; bring your own lawn chairs and blankets. A note from the film's official website: This is a nonsmoking event. —Glenn McDonald
