Bombadil, You Won't

When: Sat., Sept. 1, 8:30 p.m. 2012

The resurrection of Bombadil remains: After a hiatus due to personnel problems and generally drained momentum, the pan-Americana band now lives together once again as a quartet in Durham. For years, their adventurousness wound through rock and pop with a Band-like bittersweet exuberance; on last year's return to the studio, All That the Rain Promises, they suggested their charms have yet to reach any expiration. Though they come from Cambridge, Mass., the energetic duo You Won't actually suggests the Scandinavian folk translations of The Tallest Man on Earth, with exaggerated enunciations and strident executions. Alternately, if you like the acoustic-and-drums wallop of The Dodos, you will find a lot to love in You Won't, especially on songs such as "Three Car Garage," a shout-along examination of settling out in the suburbs. —Grayson Currin
