Bloody Brunch with John Howie Jr.

When: Sun., Oct. 23, 1:30 p.m. 2011

Those looking for an early Sunday afternoon diversion other than football are directed to Motorco's Sunday brunch shows, which, every other week, feature not only music but also local food and clothing entrepreneurs. There's no market this week, but there is local mainstay John Howie. A well-regarded drummer, Howie fronted the Two Dollar Pistols starting in 1996, showcasing a velveteen baritone and an abiding love for George Jones' honky-tonk ache and Merle Haggard's Bakersfield bite. These days, Howie has remained busy with his country and rock bands the Sweethearts and the Rosewood Bluff, plus playing drums with punkers the P-90's and doing the occasional solo gig. The free music starts at 1:30 p.m., with pizza and ice cream trucks arriving around noon. —Chris Parker
