Bleached, Hunters, Gross Ghost

When: Wed., April 17, 9 p.m. 2013

Bleached comprises Jessie and Jennifer Clavin, California sisters who learned to play music by thrashing out songs together in their parents' basement. Their indoctrination in the nearby Los Angeles DIY scene eventually led to Mika Miko, their livewire punk band that split after a promising run.

Ride Your Heart finds the Clavins reconnecting to make the kind of pop music that you want to put on a mixtape: "Outta My Mind" is a perfect surge of guarded romanticism, while the Ramones-level ebullience of "Searching Through the Past" pleads for the reprisal of a relationship that was fun but nowhere near perfect. The grungy, petulant sear of New York's Hunters have led them to work with James Iha and Nick Zinner and given them, at the moment, big (if potentially overblown) industry buzz.
