Blast From the Past Reading Series

When: Wed., April 18, 7 p.m. 2012

According to a study published in the Journal of Consumer Research, re-reading books can be good for your mental health, igniting new emotions that can be savored at leisure. Blast From the Past, a new bimonthly series at the Regulator, pairs celebrated local writers with classic works in evening discussions that might catapult you back to your awkward acne days. Hillsborough writer Allan Gurganus will lead the inaugural session, an examination of F. Scott Fitzgerald's masterpiece, The Great Gatsby. Maybe this time around your adolescent passions won't overshadow those of Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan, and you'll be able to indulge and discover new joy in a 20th-century standard. The free event starts at 7 p.m. —Christina Cass
