Black Box Live

When: Tue., April 24, 7:30 p.m. and Wed., April 25, 7:30 p.m. 2012

I don't mean to sound like a Cynical Cynthia, but when I read that Durham School of the Arts Theatre's Black Box Live features "an evening of SNL-style original and classic sketch comedy," my immediate reaction was, "So it's a bunch of sketches about weird talk shows featuring overdone celebrity impressions?" To the members of DSA Theatre's Acting in Comedies class who are putting on these shows: We know you're young and just starting out, but that well is dry. DRY.

Also dry: Fat suits, the one annoying character who freaks out a bunch of regular people, and sketches about overly close families. We can't emphasize this enough. Nonetheless, comedy favors the young, so check out what the new generation of comedy will unleash upon the world at 7:30 p.m. A $5 donation is suggested. —Zack Smith
