Big K.R.I.T., Well$, Stranger Day x Elevator Jay

When: Mon., March 2, 8 p.m. 2015

In the first episode of Big K.R.I.T.’s The Making of Cadillactica, the Mississippi emcee and producer asks collaborator Rico Love, “What do you think I might be missing career-wise?” Love answers, “People just need to know you. They need to figure out exactly who you are.” The resulting Cadillactica LP found K.R.I.T. providing more than his dependable material—subwoofers and country shit—and exploring the story of manhood below the Mason-Dixon rather than wasting time on sermons about why he’s the king of the South. “I’m closer than I’ve ever been/I probably shouldn’t leave/I probably should record some other things that I perceive/To be more sublime and divine than you and me,” he raps during one of the record’s most poignant moments. While most of what he’s recorded has already hit that mark, there’s still room for new acquainting. —Eric Tullis
