Big Fat Gap

When: Sun., Dec. 18, 9 p.m. 2011

Big Fat Gap didn't have a stellar November: Their van, named the White Buffalo, and their sound system were both destroyed in a fire, but the band's not letting it spoil their holiday spirit. For 12 years now, Big Fat Gap has gathered to celebrate the season with a boisterous bluegrass jam. Current members take to the stage with a number of musicians from the community. Special guests already lined up for this night include Jeff Stickley of Hammer No More the Fingers, Michael Holland of Jennyanykind, Andrew Marlin and Emily Franz of Mandolin Orange and Greg Humphreys of Hobex. "We will play some of the old BFG favorites and do some off-the-cuff holiday tunes," promises bassist Miles Andrews. "It is never organized and always a blast." As for their recent troubles, they'll be taking up donations to buy replacements. Can't say you've ever heard of anyone dreaming of a White (Buffalo) Christmas, can you? Visit for cover charge and show time. —Ashley Melzer
