"Ibsen did not criticize the middle class--he annihilated it." Stella Adler's quote suggests where director Kenny Gannon is headed in his production of Little Eyolf, the brooding Norwegian playwright's rarely produced inquiry into what Gannon calls "the horror that lies in 'ordinary' hearts." When their crippled child dies by drowning (after the advent of the Rat Wife, a nightmarish folk figure), the repressive social structures combined still cannot keep an unhappy marriage from unraveling and revealing its ghastly contents. On Sonya Drum's set, an intriguing cast including Jay O'Berski, Roman Pearah and Megan Brown explore the darkness of hearts, Wednesday through Sunday at 7:30 p.m.at Peace College in Raleigh.
