In road trips
We know you're all sneaking off to the beach anyway, so this week we're violating our local-coverage rules to pitch what promises to be one of the most unusual Independence Day events in North Carolina. On July 4, the sleepy beach town of Beaufort will host its 15th annual B>Underwater Bike Race$> at 4 p.m. Anyone can race, and how you move your bike through the water is up to your imagination\m>short of the help of a motor or another diver. The entry fee is only $5 (the money goes to the Mile of Hope Children's Cancer Fund), and being a spectator is free. Provided there is still space available, the sponsors will take entries up until the race time. For more information, call (252) 728-2265.
