SONOROUS ROAD PRODUCTIONS, RALEIGH

THURSDAY, OCT. 8–SUNDAY, OCT. 18

"Everything in heaven and earth is almost right," Elvis Costello croons in his graceful but sinister song, "The Long Honeymoon." The tune's subject—budding uncertainty in the relationship of a young couple—and tasteful accordion resonate in sympathy with Amy Herzog's suspenseful, Paris-based portrait of an early marriage as it slowly segues from light into shadow. Zack is a rising doctor who has moved with his new wife, Abby, to France to work for Doctors Without Borders. They've been there long enough for Abby to realize it isn't working out, and she has given up on learning French. Her sense of isolation and unease increases as the couple's mutual proclivities and peccadilloes, insignificant in themselves, gradually cohere into a darker whole. The result, says the Chicago Tribune, uses "the nomenclature and the narrative tension of a Hitchcockian thriller" to explore "one of life's most common and horrific traps: the peril of one day waking up and finding yourself inextricably linked to someone you do not really know." In this first production from Sonorous Road Productions, a new theater company and film studio in Raleigh, Zachary Roberts directs a quartet including David Friedlander and Michelle Wells. 8 p.m. Thurs.Sat.; 3 p.m. Sun., $16$20, 209 Oberlin Road, Raleigh, 919-803-3798, www.sonorousroad.com. —Byron Woods
