Barbe Bleue

When: Mon., Sept. 27, 8 p.m. 2010

Finding identity through film is no new concept; viewers and filmmakers alike have used it to navigate social differences for as long as the art form has been alive. Duke's Tournees French Film Series explores these differences under the context of "Borders in Love and War," a theme chosen because of the films' crossing of borders both physical and metaphorical. Tonight's film, Barbe Bleue, explores the borders between gender differences while revisiting the famous tale of Bluebeard, as well as "showcasing the ongoing evolution of female cinematographers' work on gender and conjugal hazards," according to Professor Deborah Jenson. The free film begins at 8 p.m. and will be shown in French with English subtitles. —Lauren Shute
