Ballet Hispanico | Carolina Theatre | Stage | Indy Week

Ballet Hispanico

When: Fri., April 16, 9:45, 11:30 a.m. & 8 p.m. 2010

With so many ballet companies out there, how can a person keep track of them? Fortunately, Ballet Hispanico sets itself apart. The New York-based company, founded in 1970 by Tina Ramirez, has performed all over the world with their strong 100-work repertory. Now led by Eduardo Vilaro, the group also incorporates ballet and modern dance along with traditional Hispanic dance. On tonight's schedule, Club Havana (2000), Destino Incierto (2008) and Triptico (2009) showcase various dances such as rhumba, conga and mambo. Like Latin culture, the troupe emphasizes vibrancy and theatricality. —Sarah Ewald
