Aye Nako

When: Sun., June 2, 8 p.m. 2013

Aye Nako self-identifies as a "homopop" and "queercore" band, but those tags aren't meant to impart exclusionary status on the Brooklyn four-piece. Rather, their effervescent and addictive rock songs simply churn and charm, suggesting Dinosaur Jr. with a sweeter lead or Sloan with gritting teeth. Released last week, their debut LP, Unleash Yourself, candidly explores issues of sexual confusion and restrictive expectations. The questions and concerns make sense no matter how you self-identify, so long as you like strong two-guitar rock with radiant hooks hung high. —Grayson Currin
