A/V Geeks vs. Norman Rockwell

When: Fri., Nov. 12, 8 p.m. 2010

The Norman Rockwell exhibit, which opened Nov. 7, is the centerpiece of the NCMA's fall lineup, so why not have the A/V Geeks provide ironic counterpoint? Yes, it's another round of vintage educational films that remind us just how much education has changed over the decades. Tonight's selections spotlight Rockwell's illustrations of Franklin D. Roosevelt's "Four Freedoms": freedom from want, freedom of speech, freedom of worship and freedom from fear. Geeks leader Skip Elsheimer will introduce the films, which include the likes of Despotism (1946) and How to Lose What We Have (1950). So many jokes to be made here ... The madness starts at 8 p.m. at the East Building of the museum auditorium. Tickets are $3.50–$5. —Zack Smith
