A/V Geeks' "Alcohol Is Dynamite!"

When: Wed., Oct. 27, 7 p.m. 2010

The A/V Geeks bring back old 16 mm educational films to see how far society has come (mostly by way of pointing and laughing). The first of three films about alcohol is 1972's Curious Habits of Man, which blends a documentary and a party like so much hops. Next is A Case for Beer from the early '70s, which advises convenience store owners to make bank from underage kids looking to get drunk. The program concludes with the titular film, a 1958 opus called Alcohol is Dynamite. Though the title makes it sound pro-booze, this one warns of the drink's dangers. (I'm betting one of the dangers it won't address is that you think you're a better dancer when wasted.) Unlike viewing these films in school or in a church youth group, you'll be able to drink some local brews while watching. The films unspool at 7 p.m.; suggested donation is $5. —Sarah Ewald
