Artsplosure | Moore Square Park | Special Events | Indy Week

Special Events

When: May 17-19 2013

If the overcast weather of the past few weeks has reduced you to a depressed, constantly-sleeping husk like, um, my friend, perhaps it is best to revel in the colors of a delayed spring with Raleigh's grand annual celebration of arts and community, now in its 33rd year. Approximately a gajillion events and booths are scheduled for the three-day festival, with music, sculpture, photography and more by North Carolinians from across the state. Highlights include Squonk Roadshow's GO! Opera (featuring a monster truck retrofitted with, among other things, a spinning piano), student art exhibits, massive sand sculptures from Raleigh architect and acclaimed sand designer Ed Moore, and specially rebuilt pianos from the Raleigh Piano Project that are set up around downtown for anyone to play. There's also a "Kidsplosure" event for children. Check the website for a full schedule, and pray it doesn't rain—again.. —Zack Smith
