Artois the Goat

We forgo some of our dreams in order to find more practical goals that will feed our families and allow us to be productive members of society. Nevertheless, we still keep those seeds alive in hopes that we will one day bring them to fruition. Perhaps this possibility is what appealed to filmmakers Cliff and Kyle Bogart, brothers who studied film together at the University of Texas at Austin. Right after graduating, the brothers set to work writing a quirky screenplay about a man named Virgil who finds, after losing his job as a lab technician, that his overwhelming passion for fine foods culminates in his need to craft the most perfect goat cheese the world has ever tasted. Like the filmmakers, who quit their jobs to craft this film, Virgil leaves his stable life behind to buy a small white goat named Artois and create his crowning cheese.

Whether Virgil, or the filmmakers for that matter, find what they're looking for by chasing their dreams is something that audiences will have to find out for themselves, though the movie's many independent film awards would seem to indicate that they were successful in their quests. Producer Richard Reininger will be on hand at tonight's 7 p.m. screening, with a reception just before the showing. The event is part of the Southern Circuit - Tour of Independent Filmmakers. —Lauren Shute
