Artist's Talk: Shazia Sikander

When: Thu., Nov. 14, 7 p.m. 2013

The most interesting part of the exhibition Doris Duke's Shangri La: Architecture, Landscape, and Islamic Art at Duke's Nasher Museum of Art might be its concluding rooms. After having seen the heiress' collection of artifacts and architectural interests, you see the work of contemporary artists who have had residencies at the Honolulu estate. New York multi-genre artist Shahzia Sikander, whose work fits as easily in the politically charged Lines of Control exhibition also currently at the Nasher, created projections of her large-scale drawing while at Shangri La in 2008. In this public talk, Sikander discusses her work and its themes of identity, religion and transnationalism. —Chris Vitiello
