Art Outside the Box

When: Sun., Oct. 28, 12-4 p.m. 2012

Former Chancellor's Residence, N.C. State Campus—The Gregg Museum of Art and Design will move out of its Talley Student Center location next spring, so its denizens are throwing a huge art party to show off their new digs. The free event takes place on the lawn of the old chancellor's residence at 1903 Hillsborough St., which you drive right past when you go through the traffic circle along campus. Doesn't ring a bell? It will on Sunday, as noted topiarist Pearl Fryar pares down some of the hedge that's hidden the building from view. Scads of hands-on art stations throughout the grounds give you and the kids a chance to learn from the area's skilled potters, painters, jewelers and origami artists. As you munch goodies from local chefs, check out the renderings of the Freelon Group-designed addition planned for the new Gregg. The event runs from noon to 4 p.m. —Chris Vitiello
