Apocalesque | The ArtsCenter | Socials | Indy Week

When: Fri., Dec. 21, 8 p.m. 2012

As T.S. Eliot once said, "This is the way the world ends: with an unforgettable night of burlesque and cabaret acts, hoop, aerial and sword dance, and a lot more." (No? Well, it was something like that.) This self-styled "cabaret and variety show at the end of the world" takes its cue—and a striking T-shirt and poster design by Erick Davis—from this small event you might have heard about in passing: the close of an epoch in the Mayan calendar, followed (hopefully) by the dawning of a new era. Which is more than reason enough to convene 18 (count 'em!) local and out-of-town experts in the delicate arts of sword dance; Oriental, Turkish, Egyptian and modern tribal fusion bellydance; gender-fusion, aerial, acrobatic, fire and fetish performance art (whew!); and then some. Music from Onyx Boys Club will help usher in ... whatever comes next. Showtime's 8 p.m.; since it's the end of the world, don't be late.
