"In between albums, you go through different moments where you feel like, 'OK, do I rush into a new album, or do I do something different?'" said Anthony Hamilton in a recent interview. "And I felt like my fans wanted to see me doing something different." That's how the Charlotte-bred soul crooner arrived at the decision to record his first-ever Christmas album, Home for the Holidays. Delivering contemporary and soulful takes on some of the season's most beloved songs, Hamilton works the material like it's a proper new record of love numbers. There's the funk update of "Little Drummer Boy," a blues-crawl duet with ZZ Ward for "Away in a Manger" and a duet with Chaka Khan, where the two add extra serenity and style to the already-gentle Nat King Cole favorite, "The Christmas Song." Not moved by the yuletide spirit? Fine. Hamilton also plans to pluck hits from his seven-album catalog just to satisfy the grinches. Tank opens. 7:30 p.m., $45$90, 123 Vivian St., 919-688-3722, dpacnc.com.Eric Tullis
