Ann Ross

When: Fri., April 16, 7:30 p.m. 2010

I'm not sure why (or how) my Midwestern-born mom kept a few books by the popular North Carolina author Ann Ross on the family bookshelves. But clearly Ross' Miss Julia character has an appeal that transcends the confines of regional literature. With her first book Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind, published in 1999, Ross introduced her steel magnolia protagonist who, recovering after her dear husband's mortal departure, is simply shocked to learn of his mistress and illegitimate son. The author lives in Hendersonville, which serves as the model for Miss Julia's Abbotsford. Tonight at 7:30 she plugs her latest book, Miss Julia Renews Her Vows. —Sarah Ewald
