Animazement | Raleigh Convention Center | Special Events | Indy Week

Special Events

When: May 23-25 2014

Raleigh has become an annual hotspot for Japanese animation buffs thanks to the Animazement convention, which attracts thousands of anime fans for three days every Memorial Day weekend. For those who wouldn't know a Gundam from a Gatchaman, the whole thing can sound a mite overwhelming. But this family-friendly show is great for anyone who wants to check out amazing costumes, learn about the medium from panel discussions or find an adorable stuffed Totoro—a Hayao Miyazaki creation—in the dealers' room. Guests include all manner of artists, voice actors, translators and theme song singers, with Studio Trigger, creators of Kill la Kill, as this year's guests of honor. There will also be autograph sessions, videogame tournaments, art sales and human chess for cosplayers. It's worth the price of admission just to see if anyone rigs up a giant costume of the people-eating monsters from recent hit Attack on Titan. Get animated all day and night through May 25. —Zack Smith
