Anamanaguchi, Kitty Pryde

When: Wed., July 24, 8 p.m. 2013

Anamanaguchi belongs to the musical category of chiptunes, meaning they use mid-'80s video game systems and mix the sounds with entry-level alt-rock influences such as Weezer. They've picked up a significant cult following: The making of their latest album, Endless Fantasy, was Kickstarted in just 11 hours. It's a fractured, coke-addled, party-rocking take on the music of their youth. Opener Kitty Pryde (technically only Kitty these days, thanks to Marvel Comics' copyrights over the X-Men character of the same name) is a 20-year-old rapper from Daytona Beach, Fla. She broke through on the strength of "Okay Cupid," a faux-nave but rather sophisticated feminist spoken-word track about longing and a lack of sophistication in males. —Brandon Soderberg

Price: $10-12
