Amy Rigby & Wreckless Eric

When: Tue., Nov. 30, 8 p.m. 2010

Off-center, but not so buried in quirk that you can't spot the song, Wreckless Eric Goulden's cult single "Whole Wide World" was just the kind of song that Amy Rigby would cover. Not long after adding "Whole Wide World" to her set, Rigby—herself the author of such offbeat gems as "Calling Professor Longhair," "Dancing With Joey Ramone" and "Are We Ever Gonna Have Sex Again?"—found herself sharing a bill with Goulden. And not long after that, the pair swapped vows. (I really, really hope they wrote their own.) The union has resulted in many charming and memorable shows, as well as two records. The duo's Stiff-released, self-titled debut is highlighted by "Round," which boasts both a clever record metaphor and a permanent-ink guitar hook. And Two-Way Family Favourites, an all-covers affair from earlier this year, is bookended by "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" and the pub-rock nugget "Silver Shirt." Let the charming commence at 8 p.m. —Rick Cornell
