Among Wolves

When: Sun., Sept. 16, 2 p.m. 2018

Before it comes to Winston-Salem's RiverRun International Film Festival next year, director Shawn Convey's Among Wolves gets a look in the Triangle at the Rubenstein Arts Center. The documentary focuses on Lija, a man in a small mountain town who heads the Wolves, a humanitarian motorcycle club that provides security and charity to a small mountain town (and its wild horses) in Bosnia-Herzegovina, an area still suffering and neglected two decades after the war. Convey says he sold everything he owned and bought a one-way ticket to Bosnia-Herzegovina to find a hopeful, humanizing perspective on the region and make this film, an obsession of his dating back a decade. The result is "a meditative mood piece [that] builds an arresting power," says Matt Fagerholm at RogerEbert.com. —Brian Howe
